DAY 32: NOW ENTERING LEAN 25

Okay folks, I took the plunge. I went and bought a new batch of shake and went for the rich chocolate Total Lean 25. This one has 20 more calories in it BUT it's serving size is bigger, so if you decrease the serving size down to the other one then you get the same amount of calories.

It has more protein and less carbs which I see as a plus.

It's sugar content maybe lower too but I'll have to look. I am going to give it a go tomorrow and see how it works out for me. They didn't have many choices at Rite Aid today as they were restocking the GNC section.

Anyway, thanks to a sale GNC is having and my 20% wellness card discount,  I received a 50% discount on the shake. Originally 41.00, I got it for 22.00.

At least if it tastes god awful or I start racking up the pounds I can hopefully return it, if not it's not a huge loss.

Change is good.

  1. Thank you so much for your blog. I saw it mentioned on the GNC comments regarding the Lean Shaks 25.

I'm starting slowly on the Dr. Mark Hyman's Blood Sugar Solution Diet. It calls for a protein shake powder for the morning power shake for those with obesity and / or diabetes. I have both. I was reluctant to try these shakes but they have the most protein for the least carb count so I was willing to give it a try. Glad you like it so much.

I lost over 40 lbs once using the Sweet Success diet drink until they stop making it. I couldn't find another product that worked as well for me. Over time I gained all my weight back and then some.

When trying the newer diet shake drinks they give me such stomach cramps. Have you experienced that with this product? Heard of any suggestions on how to control that uncomfortable symptom if it should occur?

You spoke of the "wellness discount card". I'm not familiar with that discount opportunity. Can you tell me more about it? Does Rite Aid honor it? Can you order your GNC Lean Shake 25 flavor through the pharmacy to insure that you get the selection you want? Have you tried GNC online? If so what has been your experience?

Are there sales at Rite Aid on the Lean Shak powder from time to time? What about online? Are there ways to get discounts on these shakes from other online vendors besides GNC?

Is it cheaper to buy it at Rite Aid or directly at GNC? From your comments it sounds like there might be a more consistent selection of product choice at the GNC store or online with GNC rather than at Rite Aid?

Looking forward to your thoughts. You certainly seem very well informed. You did a great job getting the Lean Shak for 50 % off...Way to go!!!

Congrats on the weight loss...very impressed.

Best wishes on your wellness program and this blog.

    1. Hi Anon,
It's my pleasure, thanks for checking it out! I started taking the Total Lean regular (not 25) that had less protein. I was very happy with the Total Lean reg. The 25 I find does bloat me a bit more (not a ton) then the regular (swiss chocolate).

I find that I have an issue with Whey protein. Whey is a product of milk and those who may have any kind of lactose issues might find whey to be very harsh on their stomachs. I had a few years ago been taking straight whey protein which KILLED my stomach and I had to stop. The regular Total Lean and Total Lean 25 are a more gentle product then most shakes out there.

The Gold Card is a GNC membership card. It costs like $15 bucks to join for the year and you get 10%+ off all GNC products first week of the month or when they're having special sales for Goldcard members.

The second card I pair the gold card with is Rite Aid's wellness card. My boyfriend and I shop a lot at Rite Aid because you can really work the savings around the store there. We quickly got to "gold status" on the wellness card which gives us 20% off of everything in the store. Since GNC is sold in Riteaid you can combine the two which adds up to some great savings. If you shop at Rite Aid I would definitely suggest signing up for their wellness card, it's free and you'll save 20% when you get over 1000 points.

You can buy the GNC Gold card at Rite Aid. Now, I don't think GNC will allow the Wellness card to be applied for their membership. But once you get both cards working, it's a great way to save on GNC products, since otherwise it'll cost you.

There are ALWAYS sales going on with GNC. Buy one get one half off, buy one get one free, $11 off with your Gold Card, etc. etc.

I don't intend on stopping the shake anytime soon. I love it as a meal supplement because it tastes good, it's keeping me fit, it has an A+ nutritional rating, and it gets rid of the stress of figuring out nutrition. The ONLY thing I don't really like that much is the sucralose in the product. But it is one of the better sugar replacements.
